Meet your instructor, Jeannette Douglas! In this class, you'll begin with the basics of cross-stitch and review the supplies you'll need. Then Jeanette will show you how to "flower" embroidery floss to separate the strands and anchor your thread without a knot.
Follow along with Jeannette as she teaches you the basic cross-stitch, the stab method and the sewing method of maneuvering the needle. Then you'll review how to maintain the correct tension and how to work with over-dyed threads that change color as you stitch.
Begin stitching your sampler! First you'll learn how to read a stitching chart. Then Jeannette will walk you through calculating the amount of fabric you'll need for Aida cloth (best for beginners) and linen. She will also demonstrate how to move across rows and stitch a small flower design.
In this lesson you will work on your lettering plan and start stitching "Live Simply." Find the path of least resistance! Next, you'll arrange your plan as Jeannette shows you how to manage stitching multiple colors at once. Finally, you'll find the best stitch order for larger motifs.
Jeannette helps you understand the differences between linen and Aida cloth and teaches you how to count threads on linen fabric. You'll also learn to read charts designed for linen with specialty stitches. Finally, Jeannette demonstrates the easy pin stitch method of anchoring thread.
Expand your stitching skills and learn specialty stitches that will make your sampler more intricate! Jeannette teaches you how to make the Smyrna stitch, backstitch and satin stitch to create beautiful patterns on linen fabric. Finally, you'll learn to add single beads for extra beauty.
Complete your cross-stitch sampler! Jeannette teaches you the safest ways to remove hoop or frame marks on your piece and prepare your gorgeous finished project for framing. Plus, she will demonstrate an easy pincushion to create if you'd like to start a simpler project with a small portion of the sampler chart.

Though needlework has always been a part Jeanette's life, she created her first designs after a special trip to the Rockies. The rest is history! Over the years, she's found that her background in floral design and folk art give her both the inspiration and knowledge of color she needs to create new designs. Jeanette puts a lot of research into each of her creative endeavors and strives to bring these learnings to light when she teaches at various stitch shops and events throughout the United States, Canada and overseas.
