I hesitate to say I have a favorite way of knitting blankets but if I did, I would say it is working in squares. You can plan all sorts of patterns by utilizing color and texture, and blanket squares make for very portable projects if you are always knitting on the go like I am.

Panels, or larger rectangles, are the best of both worlds. Working in larger pieces cuts down on the amount of sewing you have to do compared to squares but is not as bulky to carry around or require as many bobbins for colorwork as working a blanket in one piece.
