Photographing a Geographic Story

Telling a geographic story through photography is a challenge. In this video, professional landscape photographer Steve Kossack explains, “Nature never does one thing only once in one place.”

In the Arizona desert, Steve shows you how to be aware of all around you and how to follow the lines into the strongest composition. He finds a group of sandstone swirls and sets up a composition that follows the lines around. To tell the geographical story, he shoots wide including the clouds. He demonstrates how to get the big picture.
