Photographing Birds Along a Rookery

Capturing a rookery of birds takes timing and patience. In this video, professional wildlife photographer, Doug Gardner, drives his boat to a backwater swamp in South Carolina where you will see him photographing birds.
He anchors the boat well back, then positions his tripod high to shoot birds in flight. For images of the flying birds, he uses the 500mm telephoto lens and keeps the shutter speed at 1/2500th for sharpness. To capture nesting birds in a single photo, he suggests higher f stops to keep them all in focus. Along the way, he shows you composition and exposure techniques to capture the ever-moving birds.
