Photographing Detail Close Up in Landscapes

Jim Zuckerman
Duration:   1  mins

You’ve heard the expression, “It’s all in the details.” As it relates to photography, the cliche applies well. World-renowned photographer Jim Zuckerman visits a Massachusetts cemetery and shows you that it’s all in the close-up details.

Jim finds beautifully engraved detail in an 1882 gravestone. He sets his camera up close and parallel to the plane of the engraving. This eliminates distortion, helps to focus sharply, and keeps all the points from the focal center to the subject equidistant. “These tips will work for almost any lens aperture,” Jim explains.

Follow pro shooter Jim Zuckerman in the cemetery for tips to help create details in your own close-up images.
