Things You Might Pass By

When trekking out in the wilderness, it’s always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings. You never know what interesting subjects you’ll find that you might normally pass by.

On a wildlife photography expedition, you're likely to do a lot of walking. You may pass by the occasional surprise that could result in gorgeous images — a stark but sharply compelling dead tree, a tiny waterfall, perhaps some lovely wildflowers. In this session, professional photographer Layne Kennedy happens upon a field of lupines, tall brightly colored flowers, and stops to get some photos, even going back to fetch a tripod.

Kennedy demonstrates how you can get stunningly different images by shooting from various angles, switching lenses, and isolating and highlighting one flower with a shallow depth of field.
