Stitch markers are a very useful notion to have with you when working on a crochet project. In this video, Corrina Ferguson reviews stitch markers to help you determine which one is right for you and your project.

There are several different type of stitch markers that can be used in a crochet project:

  • Plastic coil-less safety pin
  • Metal coil-less safety pin
  • Split ring
  • Lobster claw
  • Novelty or decorative
  • Corrina notes that because of the construction of crochet stitches, you’ll need to have a stitch marker that can be open or closed in some way. Once Corrina explores the different types of stitch markers, she reviews why a stitch marker would be used in a crochet project:

    • Keep track of patterning or shaping
  • Mark the top of a turning chain
  • Place marker to note how many inches have been worked
  • Hold last loop of a project in progress so that the stitches don’t unravel when it’s put away
